A major focus of the Longwood SAIF is to provide training to new and experienced researchers—not only on the use of the current modalities—but also in evolving techniques. It is also hoped that the Longwood SAIF will facilitate the development of new methods and diagnostic capabilities.
We are in the process of creating downloadable training videos that will cover:
| |
—Small Animal Handling Techniques: These videos demonstrate important techniques such as retro-orbital injection, submandibular blood sampling, and fur removal using depilatories. |
| |
—Basic Instrument Usage: Although an experienced Longwood SAIF technician will be operating all instruments, we believe that educated users will get the most out of our resources. These videos show how to use each instrument available in the Longwood SAIF and provide an example of an actual imaging session using small animals. |
| |
—Basic Image Analysis: This video provides a tutorial on the image analysis capabilities of the SAIF and demonstrates use of OsiriX on a Mac, Osiris and MicroView on a PC, ImageJ on Mac and PC, and the Hermes Fusion ™ co-registration system.

A goal of the Longwood SAIF is to educate its users about the basic principles of molecular imaging. Below are links to PowerPoint presentations on various imaging modalities and topics of interest. Feel free to download them and use them for training and educational purposes. We are continually updating our training options, so please check back often.

This training is provided by the Sprawls Educational Foundation: The programs of the SEF provide educational resources and materials to improve the quality of education, primarily in the developing countries. However, the Open Online Resources are available to all institutions, instructors, and students.

Dr. Liu and Ms. Lunsford are available to train users on animal handling techniques and image analysis. Drs. Frangioni and Lenkinski are also available daily for consultation and for troubleshooting difficult experiments.
